Why I do this
Every family has a story.
Some stories begin with extraordinary entrepreneurial vision. Others are shaped by resilience, sacrifice or the courage to build something that did not exist before. Over time, those stories become businesses, investments, foundations and family offices. They also become more complex, bringing new opportunities, responsibilities and questions that cannot be answered by legal documents or financial models alone. My work begins where technical advice ends.
For nearly 20 years, I have advised entrepreneurs, family enterprises and families of significant wealth as they navigate succession, governance, family office design and continuity planning. Throughout my career—as a private banker, Bay Street tax lawyer, family enterprise advisory partner at a Big Four firm—I have been privileged to sit beside families during some of the most important moments in their history. Those experiences have reinforced one belief above all others: enduring family enterprises are built intentionally. While legal, tax and financial strategies are essential, they are only part of the equation. Families thrive across generations when they invest equally in leadership, governance, communication and stewardship.
That conviction has shaped my approach. I help families create thoughtful governance systems, establish family offices, prepare future leaders, strengthen boards and family councils, facilitate difficult conversations and design practical frameworks that support sound decision-making for generations to come. My role is not simply to solve today’s challenges, but to help families build the capabilities to navigate tomorrow’s vicissitudes.
Clients often tell me that I have a unique ability to simplify complexity. Whether explaining sophisticated tax concepts, facilitating conversations between generations or coordinating multidisciplinary teams of advisors, I believe the best advice is clear, practical and grounded in the family’s values and aspirations. My work is informed by an unusual combination of experience across law, private banking, governance and family enterprise advising.
Equally important is a lifelong curiosity about how families make decisions, preserve relationships and create meaningful legacies. I am as interested in the conversations around the boardroom table as I am in the legal structures that support them. Beyond my professional work, I remain deeply inspired by culture, travel, food and the stories that connect people across generations and communities. Those experiences continually remind me that every family is unique, and that the strongest legacies are measured not only by the wealth they preserve, but by the purpose, relationships and opportunities they create for those who follow.
My purpose is simple: to help enterprising families build the structures, confidence and shared understanding that allow both their relationships and their enterprises to flourish for generations.
